I had a group tour in the Imperial Palace East Garden as a member of a volunteer tour guide team. The organization is the Tokyo Free Walking Tour (TFWT). Ukiyo-e is a kind of Japanese woodblock print arts. It was popular around 18-19 centuries. It is known that many western impressionists such as Van Gogh were inspired by Ukiyo-e. Kamakura is located 50 km south of Tokyo. The city was a capital of Japan in the 13th-14th century. I participated in a volunteer guide activity in Kamakura. Recently, I joined such kind of activity at Shibuya and Harajuku in Tokyo. However, I was eager to have a volunteer guide experience in Kamakura. Kamakura is a good place as a destination for one day trip from Tokyo. Many people visit the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu shrine, Hokokuji known as a "Bamboo Temple" or the famous Great Buddha temple.

Rikugien garden was constructed about 300 years ago by a samurai feudal lord for his own home garden. It is characterized as a stroll garden with a central pond, mountains, and greenery. When you walk around the pond, you will find the Japanese beauty and relaxed feeling. In June, Ajisai (hydrangea) blossoms are beautiful. The entrance fee is 300 yen. 7min on foot from Komagome Station of JR Yamanote Line (JY10) or Tokyo Metro Namboku Line (N14).

We went to Yokohama. Yokohama is 30km south of Tokyo. It is a good day trip destination from Tokyo. We enjoyed Beer Festival in Red Brick Warehouse. In the past, it was a real warehouse of the Yokohama port. Now, it's a famous sightseeing spot. It's so fun!

Sumo training was opened to public on the 3rd of May. This event is held annually in the Ryogoku kokugikan hall. It is free and no reservation is necessary. The open training was held from 7:00 a.m. for 4 hours.
